Best Things To Do On The Big Island

Best Things To Do On The Big Island

The Big Island of Hawaii is one of the most spectacular places on the planet. The entire island is absolutely beautiful and a phenomenon to behold. It’s almost impossible to list all the wonders and attractions of the island on just one comprehensive list, but that won’t stop us from trying! Regardless of how you enjoy spending your holidays, the following experiences are absolutely worth the effort and time.

What to do on the Big Island

Best Things To Do On The Big Island

Here are the best things to do on the Big Island, guaranteed to create remarkable memories that will last a lifetime:

SkyDive the Big Island

If you’re yet to try skydiving, then this is your big chance on the Big Island. What better way to experience the incredible views than from above? Get a bird’s eye view of the breathtaking northern landscapes of the Big Island. Before the remarkable jump, the pilot will fly you through the incredible North Kohala valley and coastline on a short tour.

When you’re ready to take the dive, you’ll be connected to an instructor who is an expert at suiting up, taking the leap and landing safe. This activity mixes thrills with stunning views! No doubt, sky diving is one of the best things to do on the Big Island.

Watch Breathtaking Humpback Whales

Watching Humpback Whales is one of the best things to do on the Big Island. Humpback whales migrate from the Alaskan waters to waters off the Hawaiian Islands from November through May. While close to shore, these whales mate, give birth, and then raise their offspring. Then they make the long trip back to Alaska where they’ll get prepped to do the whole thing over again next season.

You can watch the whales from several Big Island beaches during peak season or you can opt for a commercial boat tour. One easy way to spot these beautiful animals is to look for areas of unrest in placid waters.

Visit A Premium Beach

A visit to a 5-star beach is one of the quintessential ways to spend your time in Hawaii and one of the best things to do on the Big Island. The island is famous for having beautiful beaches with different color sand (white, black and even green!) From Puako Beach to Beach 69, Spencer Beach Park to Hapuna Beach Park, Kahalu’u to Anaeho’omalu Bay, these beautiful beaches stretch across the island giving you the perfect opportunity to bask and lounge in comfort.

Hike to the Green Sand Beach

Have you ever set foot on a green sand beach? The Big Island is well known for the variety of beaches it offers, the most unique definitely being the famous Green Sand Beach. We admit, getting to this beach takes considerable effort but it’s absolutely worth your time. You have a few options. 1) You can drive to the end of South Point Road and then hike for about three miles (one way) 2) You can drive the entire way but you will definitely need 4WD and a lot of clearance (the way can be treacherous, so we tend to not suggest this method) 3) Locals will drive you to the beach and back for a fee. However you decide to make the trip, it is definitely worth it. This beach is temporary and should be enjoyed while it can!
