If you’ve booked a manta ray tour in Kona — or you’re about to — here is exactly what happens from the moment you arrive at the dock to the moment you’re back on shore with hot cocoa and a story.
Before You Arrive
Sign your digital waiver online before you come. You’ll receive a link when you book — completing it in advance saves time at check-in. Provide your height and weight when you book for wetsuit sizing.
Check-In at Keauhou Bay
Check-in is at the Keauhou Bay finger pier — end of Kaleiopapa Street, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740. Look for Sea Paradise crew in blue shirts and the white wetsuit van. Check in approximately 15 minutes before departure. Crew will fit you with a shorty wetsuit.
Aboard the Hoku Nui
The Hoku Nui departs Keauhou Bay and sails to Manta Village. During the passage, the marine naturalist runs the in-water orientation — this covers float technique, how to position yourself, what to expect from the mantas, and Sea Paradise’s wildlife interaction guidelines: no touching, no chasing, no flash photography directed at the rays. The orientation matters. Guests who follow the technique consistently have better encounters.
In the Water
At Manta Village, crew deploys the Manta Flotation Device and assists guests into the water. In-water guides stay with the group throughout the 45-minute snorkel. The float is lit from below, attracting plankton and drawing the manta rays to the feeding zone directly beneath guests. On most nights, multiple manta rays are present. Sighting rate averages 85–95% year-round. http://seaparadise.com/manta-village-kona
Back Aboard
After the snorkel, crew assists guests back aboard the Hoku Nui. Hot cocoa and chocolates are served. If mantas were not seen on your tour night, Sea Paradise’s guarantee provides a free return within 7 days.
